Landscape

In this project, I was tasked with creating a landscape image in Photoshop using only body parts. I looked to different landscapes for inspiration and decided to replicate one with mountains, water, and tree branches. I began by manipulated pictures of noses to create the mountains, focusing on maintaining the pink hue in the original picture. I created the sky by using a close-up photo of an eye, and using many adjustment layers to give it a pink and blue hue. Then, I created tree branches using arms and legs, and then the tubes of the lung for the smallest branches. I made flowers out of a photograph of a hand that I duplicated and added gradients to. For cohesiveness I used the same hands for the plants in the water but made the hue more dull. The water itself is made of tissue, adjusted to look like it has depth. The rocks in the water are bent legs/knees, as well as the small boat in the distance which I included to further the illusion of depth.

Video Art

View here:  https://youtu.be/EHUY03vcvs4 Artist Statement: When trying to decide how to approach this project, I began by thinking of how I could incorporate technology both into the theme and the production of the video. I ended up using the Photo Booth application on my Mac to record a video using the heat map effect. I experimented with how the effect worked by moving different distances from the camera and moving my hand over the camera, causing a flickering effect where the heatmap colors changed temporarily. I utilized technology by recording myself using various devices- my phone, laptop, and game console. The way that the heatmap responded to the screens of the devices was interesting. To edit the video, I used Final Cut Pro to import each clip, trim them, and use various effects. I used different opacities to overlay clips onto each other, in order to achieve a more complex image. I also added overlay trails, kaleidoscopes, mirror images, and duplication. These eff...

Dreamweaver canvas exercises

For these assignments, I was more concerned with experimenting and understanding the syntax and features in Dreamweaver than creating a complete image. My goal was to simply create rectangles and triangles of different sizes. I experimented with writing code and changing variables like the x and y coordinates of each point, the hexadecimal code for each color, and the line width. Ultimately, I learned how to manipulate these to fit the specifications of the assignment and to know what to do for the next assignment.

Technology

The technology that I chose to focus on is music streaming. Music streaming services like Spotify and Pandora would not exist if not for the many technologies that came before them. Going back to the 1800’s, the invention of the phonograph marked a breakthrough in music technology. It allowed for sounds to be recorded and re-played with quality and accuracy. Phonographs became very popular and themselves led to the next advancements in music technology that allowed many people to experience the same songs together. One is the record store, the first of which was founded in 1894, and the first in America coming in 1932. Record stores allowed people to discover new music and develop their own tastes. Additionally, the invention of the jukebox placed music in public places, allowing for a convenient listening experience. While the concept and first type of jukebox came in the 1890’s, the actual term began in the U.S. in the 1940’s. While these technologies were major br...
