Xerox Project

I attempted to create a piece of art primarily using curly hair texture and hand prints. The hand prints gradually change from hovering over the scanner to fully pressing against it, creating a gradation. The curly hair was intended to look like waves or flowers that the hand is gradually reaching towards.

Grid Art

I started by taking a piece of patterned paper and making a grid with a hot glue gun, creating evenly spaced dots. It took a long time to carefully create each dot. I sketched out the basic shape of what I wanted to make, a drawing of Kirby from the video game series of the same name. Then I began painting over individual glue dots with different colored paints. First I painted the outline in black and then filled in the shoes, mouth, and cheeks with red.  Lastly I filled in the body with pink paint to finish off the image of Kirby, and added white highlights to the eyes as a finishing touch. Overall, I like the final project because of the 3D effect of the bubbles, which gives it a fun shape and texture.

Flipbook

My goal with this flipbook was primarily to create a story that has some cohesive elements but is still abstract. The included various different 'scenes' like a guy getting rained on, finding an umbrella, and then abandoning the umbrella only for a frog to fall on it. The frog then catches a fly with its tongue and transforms into Pikachu from the Pokemon series. Pikachu gets captured by a Pokeball, which is then abducted by an alien spaceship. The ship turns pink and morphs into a heart, which undergoes a series of transformations.

Camera Obscura

I decided to make a camera obscura using a cereal box. I began by gathering the supplies: Cereal box, bag, scissors, tape, and a thumbtack. Then I cut a square in the box: Then I cut the bag and taped it over the hole: Lastly, I used the thumbtack to poke a hole in the opposite side of the cereal box. Then it was time to hold it up to a light source. I used a lamp that hangs above my desk. Although it's somewhat dark and not the easiest to see in a picture, there is an inverted reflection of the lamp: (You can see the large circular rim and the cord coming out of the bottom rather than the top) Overall, I thought it was an interesting project to do and would like to see what a large-scale camera obscura looks like too.

Technology

The technology that I chose to focus on is music streaming. Music streaming services like Spotify and Pandora would not exist if not for the many technologies that came before them. Going back to the 1800’s, the invention of the phonograph marked a breakthrough in music technology. It allowed for sounds to be recorded and re-played with quality and accuracy. Phonographs became very popular and themselves led to the next advancements in music technology that allowed many people to experience the same songs together. One is the record store, the first of which was founded in 1894, and the first in America coming in 1932. Record stores allowed people to discover new music and develop their own tastes. Additionally, the invention of the jukebox placed music in public places, allowing for a convenient listening experience. While the concept and first type of jukebox came in the 1890’s, the actual term began in the U.S. in the 1940’s. While these technologies were major br
