Video Art

View here:  https://youtu.be/EHUY03vcvs4 Artist Statement: When trying to decide how to approach this project, I began by thinking of how I could incorporate technology both into the theme and the production of the video. I ended up using the Photo Booth application on my Mac to record a video using the heat map effect. I experimented with how the effect worked by moving different distances from the camera and moving my hand over the camera, causing a flickering effect where the heatmap colors changed temporarily. I utilized technology by recording myself using various devices- my phone, laptop, and game console. The way that the heatmap responded to the screens of the devices was interesting. To edit the video, I used Final Cut Pro to import each clip, trim them, and use various effects. I used different opacities to overlay clips onto each other, in order to achieve a more complex image. I also added overlay trails, kaleidoscopes, mirror images, and duplication. These effects

Music

Punk: Green Day is an example of a very well-known punk band. They fit into this category because of their themes of rebellion and dissatisfaction with society. A theme of the song American Idiot in particular is that it is critical of technology and the way it is used to control people. 90's: Pearl Jam is one of the most famous 90's bands. In this music video you can see how technology was applied in the video editing process to create varying effects like overlaying videos, adjusting colors, and a strobe light effect. electroclash: Justice is a French electronic music band classified as electro house/electroclash. The various influences and synthesized sounds can be heard in their music. Technology-wise, they use a variety of equipment to produce their music and perform it live, using Ableton, input devices, synthesizers, and more.  Girl Power: Marina Diamandis incorporates female empowerment into her lyrics and videos (as well as comments on technolo

Performance Art

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i86xXaeDCtg&feature=youtu.be Our task was to create a piece of performance art. I partnered up with another girl, Daniela, and we worked together to put together a posterboard with common things people dislike about technology. We also filled up balloons with water and food coloring. Then, we set the poster up in a noticable location and filmed it inconspicuously. The intent was for people to throw the balloons at the things they disliked the most. A group of girls came by and threw the balloons around for a while as captured in the time lapse video we took. (I slowed down the time lapse somewhat since it was very fast.) In the end it gave the poster board an interesting drippy effect with various different colors and the board itself got dented by the balloons, making it a unique piece of artwork.
