Broadway Show Thoughts

After looking through Angel's blog, I saw some interesting broadway shows that I didn't know existed. For example, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The broadway version seems interesting and the props and technology used look very thought-out and complicated. I also liked the excerpt of Don't Rain On My Parade because I'm familiar with that song, so it was interesting to see a different performance of it. I also liked the performance from the new Mary Poppins, it reminded me of the original one but with a more modern take, and I think the new actress did a good job maintaining the same character of Mary Poppins.

There are definitely a lot of broadway shows on the blog that I didn't recognize, as I don't know much about broadway in general, but the ones I watched were all very interesting and I would definitely like to see more broadway shows in general, the only one I've seen being Jersey Boys (of which I didn't see any clips from on the blog.)

Video Art

View here:  https://youtu.be/EHUY03vcvs4 Artist Statement: When trying to decide how to approach this project, I began by thinking of how I could incorporate technology both into the theme and the production of the video. I ended up using the Photo Booth application on my Mac to record a video using the heat map effect. I experimented with how the effect worked by moving different distances from the camera and moving my hand over the camera, causing a flickering effect where the heatmap colors changed temporarily. I utilized technology by recording myself using various devices- my phone, laptop, and game console. The way that the heatmap responded to the screens of the devices was interesting. To edit the video, I used Final Cut Pro to import each clip, trim them, and use various effects. I used different opacities to overlay clips onto each other, in order to achieve a more complex image. I also added overlay trails, kaleidoscopes, mirror images, and duplication. These eff...

Technology

The technology that I chose to focus on is music streaming. Music streaming services like Spotify and Pandora would not exist if not for the many technologies that came before them. Going back to the 1800’s, the invention of the phonograph marked a breakthrough in music technology. It allowed for sounds to be recorded and re-played with quality and accuracy. Phonographs became very popular and themselves led to the next advancements in music technology that allowed many people to experience the same songs together. One is the record store, the first of which was founded in 1894, and the first in America coming in 1932. Record stores allowed people to discover new music and develop their own tastes. Additionally, the invention of the jukebox placed music in public places, allowing for a convenient listening experience. While the concept and first type of jukebox came in the 1890’s, the actual term began in the U.S. in the 1940’s. While these technologies were major br...

Xerox Project

I attempted to create a piece of art primarily using curly hair texture and hand prints. The hand prints gradually change from hovering over the scanner to fully pressing against it, creating a gradation. The curly hair was intended to look like waves or flowers that the hand is gradually reaching towards.
